Dear Parents and Guardians, please take a few moments to visit the CCSD #1 website and view the calendar proposals for the 2018-2019 school year. There are two calendars posted in the District Home page, you may click the + button to enlarge the calendars if needed. After viewing the calendars, please go to the link below to share your opinion.
The first calendar is the 168 day calendar and is very similar to the calendar we adopted for this school year. The second calendar is a 4-day calendar, this calendar would require a longer school day to meet the state mandated attendance hours of 1100 at the high school. School would likely run from . Teachers would attend on the light blue days for professional development and the purple days would be teacher work days and for students to come for interventions and or enrichment. The purple days would be from for students and there would be no lunch served. There are a few Fridays that run as a regular day when there is a holiday on that and we would also use Fridays for making up snow days as needed.
If we do decide to move to a 4-day calendar, absences will become more disruptive to your child’s education. It would be with an understanding that appointments and days out of school would be scheduled for Fridays if at all possible, I understand sometimes it is not possible.
Schools that have moved to a 4-day week have shared concerns with childcare on those days. From what I have learned, every community has been able to work it out, there are several schools in WY and SD operating on a 4-day calendar. The research is mixed on the test results but much of what I read indicated most schools tend to improve for a short time and then return to a similar test results. There is a cost savings associated with a 4-day week but results are widely spread on the amounts.
